To enhance public understanding of shadow puppetry and expand audience participation, the Museum has been hosting the “Walk into the Light—Shadow Puppetry Screen Creation Competition” since 2025. Based on the local playlet script “Recalling Theater Stories in the Shadow Screen—The Bluebird,” this competition focuses on the “overall visual effect of the shadow screen.” Participants should demonstrate how their work aligns with the theme and showcase their creations as static pieces on the shadow screen, rooted in the core concept of shadow puppetry performance. This competition is planned to run for three editions, divided into Individual and Group categories, and the winning works will be featured in a creative exhibition in 2029. We hope to encourage the public to engage in shadow puppetry creation and local writing, helping them familiarize themselves with the context of Taiwanese shadow puppetry and local story creation through reading and comprehension. Furthermore, by making shadow screens, participants can refine traditional carving techniques and the use of decorative patterns, ultimately blending in innovative thinking to create a brand-new visual feast.
